Welcome to Let's Do the Panic Again. I'm Nicholas Slayton, writer, journalist, awkward oddball, and I want to share the things that keep me up at night. Insomnia and anxiety have been steady parts of my life for years, and I'm sure the spectre haunting me is the same one haunting you. The world around us is terrifying and bizarre.
I've spent the better part of the last decade trying to make sense of our chaotic, strange and violent times. I previously was a staff writer and a de-facto co-editor at Los Angeles Downtown News until the coronavirus pandemic, and I've written and worked for a variety of outlets such as The Atlantic, Invisible People and Los Angeles Magazine, covering inequality, homelessness, film, theater conflict and much more. Consider this newsletter my attempt to grapple with the ongoing collapse around us. I aim to update it at least weekly. It'll range from current events to film and comic critiques, but at its core it's me trying to make sense of it all. I hope you'll join me.
